Mega-developer Gerald Wolkoff made a last-minute election-eve donation of $40,000 to the Suffolk Democratic Committee.

The state elections board website lists last minute donations over $1,000 within 24 hours.

Wolkoff’s donation comes as his proposed $4 billion Heartland Town Square, with 9,100 apartments and 4 million square feet retail and office space on 495-acres at the south end of Pilgrim Psychiatric Center, is still awaiting zoning approvals from GOP-controlled Islip Town.

Democratic County Executive Steve Bellone has been a major backer of the Wolkoff project.

Richard Schaffer, Suffolk Democratic chairman, said his ties to Wolkolf go back to when he was a county lawmaker and Wolkolf has always given the party strong support. “We’ve always had a good working relationship and I consider him a longtime friend and supporter,” said Schaffer.
