Suffolk Legis. Sarah Anker (D-Mount Sinai) held a one-vote edge in unofficial election-night returns, but Republicans lead in the number of absentee votes cast in her race against GOP challenger Steve Tricarico.

County election officials report 218 absentee ballots cast by Republicans and 178 from Democratic voters. There are also 23 from Conservatives, 15 from Independence Party members, one from a Green Party member and 66 from voters unaffiliated with a party.

Officials caution that the affiliation of these voters does not necessarily affect how they voted, and the number could increase. Mail-in ballots, which were to be postmarked by Nov. 2, could still come in, and any others delivered at polling places last Tuesday have yet to be processed.
