Jack Martins backed by Independence Party for House seat

State Sen. Jack Martins has added a third ballot line to his bid for the congressional seat of retiring Democratic Rep. Steve Israel.
Martins has gained the endorsement of the Independence Party to run on its ballot line, which in the past Israel routinely received.
Meanwhile, as many as a half dozen Democrats are expected to fight for their party’s nomination in a primary.
