Islip lets $90G chief deputy for public safety go
Jason Bassett, who was Islip’s $90,000-a-year chief deputy commissioner for public safety enforcement, was fired from his town post, according to town sources.
Caroline Smith, town spokeswoman, confirmed that Bassett no longer works there but declined to say whether he departed on his own or was dismissed.
Bassett, 64, of Holbrook, started with the town on Dec. 31, 2014, according to civil service records. According to one source, he was walked out of his office a week ago Friday.
Supervisor Angie Carpenter last fall fired Bassett’s wife, Kerry Bassett, as parks commissioner. Both Bassetts are considered allies of Town GOP chairman Frank Tantone, who declined to comment.
