WASHINGTON — Long Island Republican congressional candidate Jack Martins can go back to his donors for a third time for the court-ordered Oct. 6 Republican primary against Philip Pidot, according to a Federal Election Commission advisory opinion issued Tuesday.
The opinion means that contributors who already have given Martins the maximum $2,700 for the June 28 primary and $2,700 for the Nov. 8 general election now can give him another $2,700 for the Oct. 6 primary.
Martins, a state senator from Old Westbury, asked the FEC for the ruling a week after the U.S. District Court on Aug. 17 threw out a New York State Board of Elections finding that Pidot had not filed enough signatures to run in the June primary.
As of Sept. 30, Martins has raised $553,326 and spent $116,631. Pidot, a financial consultant and analyst from Glen Cove, has raised $138,960 and spent $111,241.
Martins and Pidot are seeking the Republican nomination to face Democrat Thomas Suozzi for the seat being vacated by Rep. Steve Israel (D-Huntington).
