Voters Guide: U.S. Representative in Congress, 2nd District: Jackie Gordon

Democrat Jackie Gordon, who is running for Long Island’s 2nd Congressional District seat against Republican incumbent Andrew Garbarino, answered questions about several issues during a recent Newsday forum. While Garbarino was unable to attend, he responded to the same questions via email. Watch and read their responses here.

BACKGROUND:

• Gordon, 57, of Copiague, previously ran against Rep. Andrew Garbarino for the New York 2nd Congressional District seat and lost in 2020.
• She also is running on the Working Families line.
• Gordon served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1984 until 2014.
• Her career as an educator includes working as a guidance counselor at Wilson Technological Center in Farmingdale.

ISSUES:

• The number one priority for Gordon is codifying reproductive rights following the reversal of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision.
• Gordon said if elected she would work to repeal the SALT cap on state and local tax deductions in federal tax filings.
• She said she wants “common sense” gun laws like universal background checks, assault weapon bans and enforcing Red Flag laws.
