Democrat Jay Schneiderman not conceding Suffolk comptroller race

Southampton Supervisor Jay Schneiderman has yet to concede the election for Suffolk County comptroller, despite the 8,623 vote unofficial lead of GOP incumbent John M. Kennedy.
Schneiderman, a Democrat and a former colleague of Kennedy's in the Suffolk County Legislature, cited the more than 29,000 absentee votes yet to be counted.
Election officials said that as of Election night, the number of absentees sent in by Democrats totaled 12,678 compared with 9,320 Republicans, 5,452 those unaligned with any political party and the rest from minor party members.
“It’s important that every vote gets counted,” said Schneiderman. He said he would concede, “if and when it becomes statistically impossible” for him to win.
The deadline for absentee ballots to arrive at Suffolk County Board of Elections is Tuesday, and Nov. 19 for military ballots.
