Southampton’s Democratic Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman has won Board of Elections approval  to keep the designation of the Protect the Taxpayer Party in his race for Suffolk County comptroller.

But it won’t score him an extra ballot line.

Schneiderman survived a challenge to his petitions of 2,400 signatures, more than the 1,500 needed to qualify for the ballot. But the challengers succeeded in knocking off 700 of Schneiderman’s signatures.

Schneider, who has the Democratic line along with the Working Families and Women’s Equality Party lines, will only be able to add the Protect the Taxpayers designation to one of his existing ballot lines. Only state legislators, who write the laws, have access to as many ballot lines as they can muster.
