Jerry Laricchiuta wins 4th term as Nassau CSEA chief

The head of Nassau County’s largest civil service union has won a fourth term as president after a contentious campaign.
Jerry Laricchiuta, president of Civil Service Employees Association Local 830, defeated Jason Perkowsky, unit president for the county’s Department of Social Services, 63 percent to 37 percent in the May 16 election. Laricchiuta’s 18-member slate of executive leaders also beat Perkowsky’s “It’s Time for a Change” ticket.
“After 12 years of stressful times for public worker members, our members recognized that strong leadership is needed to get us through the next four years,” said Laricchiuta, citing possible U.S. Supreme Court decisions on right-to-work rules.
Perkowsky argued during the campaign that Laricchiuta was “out of touch” with CSEA members and said the union needed “new blood.”
“But we will do everything we can to work together and get on the same page,” said Perkowsky, a child protective service supervisor at DSS.
