BACKGROUND: Lafazan, 28, of Woodbury, is in his third term as a Nassau County legislator after winning his seat at age 23. He won his first election at age 18, to the Syosset school board of Education, a month before graduating from Syosset High School in 2012. In the private sector, Lafazan works as an adviser to Northwell Health on its corporation social responsibility efforts. He has taught classes on politics and on venture capital as an adjunct professor at Long Island University. Lafazan graduated from Cornell University ILR School with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Labor Relations in 2016, earned a master’s degree in education policy and management from Harvard Graduate School of Education in 2017 and is pursuing a doctoral degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

ISSUES: Lafazan’s top priorities include protecting women’s right to choose by codifying Roe v. Wade, enacting gun reform with a ban on assault weapons and passing universal background checks, and fighting to get health care costs under control. He does not support defunding the police. . In Nassau County, Lafazan has led efforts to pass gun reforms including the red flag and safe storage laws, protect abortion rights by increasing funding and access to local clinics and has cut property taxes. He would also secure funds for Long Island Sound, renewable energy, electric charging stations along the North Shore and to clean up the Grumman-Navy Plume. He supports restoration of the state and local tax deduction for home mortgages.
