KEVIN C. SURDI

REPUBLICAN

BACKGROUND:

  • Surdi, 35, of Bay Shore, left his job as a Huntington Hospital emergency room nurse to run for the first time, backed by the Conservative Party.
  • As a business consultant and former hospital director of emergency services, he has trained major companies on how to hold difficult conversations and influence behavior changes.
  • He got his bachelor’s in nursing from Molloy College and a master’s in business administration from Grand Canyon University.
  • He helped turn the surgery recovery room and other hospital areas into intensive care units for COVID patients.

ISSUES:

  • He would end all COVID-related mandates, saying they have wreaked havoc on the economy, but he is not against vaccines.
  • He favors cutting “frivolous” spending and government leaders’ salaries before raising taxes.
  • Lowering healthcare costs is a top goal, and noting that the overdose antidote Narcan is available for free, he would propose offering certain lifesaving drugs free also, such as insulin and EpiPens.
  • He would reverse bail reform, the expunging of criminal records and other changes he believes have increased crime.
