Laurie Scheinman, 52, a psychologist and philanthropist who runs a store in Port Washington where all the profits go to charity, has expressed interest in running, according to Jay Jacobs, Nassau Democratic chairman. She is married to Martin Scheinman, a prominent labor mediator.

Suffolk Legis. Steve Stern (D-Dix Hills) meanwhile formally declared his candidacy late last week and formed a fundraising committee in a field where there are 11 Democratic candidates.
