'Little Flower'-style slot-machine smash planned for Albany

Gambling foes plan to symbolically turn back the clock Monday by destroying slot machines at the state Capitol, re-enacting New York City Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia’s Great Depression stunt.

“La Guardia personally smashed many slot machines during his term of office because he hated ordinary New Yorkers getting exploited and cheated -- particularly lower-income New Yorkers who could least afford it, and. particularly when politicians were involved in it,” the Coalition Against Gambling in New York and Institute for American Values declared.

Election Day voters will decide on a constitutional amendment to allow seven non-Indian-run casinos in New York.
