Consider the politics of baseball. Former Nassau County ExecutiveThomas Suozzi, a Dem- ocrat, was a Mets fan, regularly attending the team's opening game at Shea.

His successor, Republican Edward Mangano, likes the Yankees, interrupting his workday last week to attend part of their home opener.

Now Mangano is bringing the team's 2009 World Series trophy to Nassau tomorrow and Wednesday, inviting fans to come see it. "There's no better way to celebrate the beginning of some great baseball than with a visit with the World Series trophy," he said in a news release.

Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, a Republican, got to display Yankees trophies at City Hall. Suozzi never brought a Mets trophy to Mineola. Of course, the Mets last won the Series in 1986 - 16 years before he took office.
