Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano has been treating the NIFA takeover as though it were a political campaign.

While Nassau Interim Finance Authority consistently declines comment, Mangano has been busy stumping the county, painting the watchdog agency as a politically motivated group that wants to usurp the powers of Nassau’s duly elected officials and raise property taxes.

In political lingo, that's called defining the opponent.

So when do the commercial start?

“Eight to 10 days,” said one political source. Another confirmed that Mangano has bought the air time though the commercials have yet to be filmed. The sources say the commercials will be paid from campaign money.

A court hearing on Mangano’s lawsuit challenging the NIFA takeover is scheduled next Friday.

A Mangano spokesman declined comment.
