Mangano's display of poor timing

The timing could have been better.

Just as Newsday reported last week on numerous problems in the first school assessment tax roll sent out by the administration of County Executive Edward Mangano last week - resulting in Mangano firing the county assessor - a full-color mailing about assessments arrived in the mailboxes of some 155,000 Nassau households.

"Ed Mangano is cleaning up the mess!" headlined the flier, which officials say cost about $34,000.
