Special election for Suffolk legislative seat set for March
Democratic plans to fill the 9th District Suffolk County legislative seat of State Sen-elect Monica Martinez with a special election Feb. 26 have to be put off, legislative and party officials said last week.
They now say the new date for the special election will be March 19. The delay is necessary to give the 53 days needed to make for adequate provision of military ballots.
A resolution setting the election date will be filed Jan. 2 at the legislature’s annual organization meeting, and a special meeting will be called Jan. 8 to hold a vote on the measure.
