BACKGROUND: Hennessey, 56, of East Moriches, is running on the Democratic and Women’s Equality Party line in the general election. He is an attorney who owned a practice with an office in Shirley from 1990 to 2015, with a focus on criminal law. Hennessey served in the New York State Assembly from 2013 to 2015 and acted as general counsel for Long Island Public Service Employees Local 342 from 1990 to 1999. He was a Brookhaven Town Councilman from 1994 to 2005 and a prosecutor in the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office from 1988 to 1990. Hennessey also served as a policy adviser in the state Senate from 2009 to 2012. Hennessey received his undergraduate degree from St. John's University in Queens in 1984 and graduated with his law degree from Touro College in 1988. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1989. He has been a member of the Suffolk County Bar Association since 1988.
