Nassau GOP awaits answer from David Gurfein on 4th CD run

Potential Republican Congressional candidate David Gurfein said he has not started circulating petitions because he is still weighing what race to take on.
“Everything is under consideration” said Gurfein, a retired Marine lieutenant colonel who lives in Manhasset. He must file at least 1,250 signatures by April 14 to make the GOP primary ballot.
Originally, Gurfein was looking at running for retiring Rep. Steve Israel’s 3rd District seat, but both the Republican and Conservative parties decided to back state Sen. Jack Martins. Nassau GOP officials instead offered Gurfein the nomination against Democratic Rep. Kathleen Rice in the 4th District, even though he does not live in the district. GOP officials say they need an answer by the upcoming week so the party can start gathering signatures.
Gurfein said he wants to be a “team player and do what is best for the country,” adding that “as a new guy playing in the political arena for the first time I appreciate all the interaction and advice — the good, the bad, and the ugly. “
