Nassau is ready for its close-up
As if the NIFA takeover doesn’t provide enough drama, Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano is trying to convince movie studios and television producers to film at the Mineola county seat.
Aide Brian Nevin said Boardwalk Empire, HBO’s television series, this week scouted the Old Courthouse at 1550 Franklin Avenue where Mangano and the county legislature have their offices.
He said another television pilot called “Pan Am” is scouting One West Street, just west of the courthouse. He said the pilot is similar in genre to Mad Men and they’re interested, coming back with more people to look again.
Such projects put $$$’s, not stars, in Mangano’s eyes.
“Every time a film project calls Nassau County home, revenue is generated,” Mangano said in a recent news release. “The money these projects bring in helps to offset the tax burden on our constituents.”
