Nassau County paid its current or retiring employees a total of $1.23 billion in 2025, a decrease of 2% from the previous year, according to payroll data obtained through a public records request.
Of this total, $915 million were paid in base salaries, $134 million in overtime and $61.5 million in so-called termination pay.
Almost half of the payroll budget, or more than $600 million, went to employees at the police department. Another $134 million went to corrections. Of the 228 highest paid county employees who made more than $300,000, all but five people work either in the police department or in Corrections.
Total pay can also be less than base pay if the employee did not work a full year. See Suffolk County’s payroll here.

The table below includes information for each Nassau County current or retired employee as of 2025. Total pay can amount to more than base pay and overtime because of other contractual obligations or because a retiring employee may have received a payout that includes accumulated vacation or other time.
