BACKGROUND: Scully, 41, of Setauket, is running in the Democratic primary. She also has the Republican, Green and Reform lines in the general election. She has had a private practice in Port Jefferson since 2008 in which she handles elder law, trusts, estates, guardianship proceedings and criminal defense. She worked for the Legal Aid Society in the District Court Bureau from 2005 to 2008. Scully was an assistant Brookhaven Town attorney from April 2013 to August 2014 and taught business law as an adjunct professor at Suffolk County Community College from 2014 to 2017. The 1999 University at Albany graduate also got her degree from Albany Law School in 2004. She was admitted to the New York State Bar in September 2005 and the Washington, D.C., bar in 2006. Her professional affiliations include the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Women's Bar Association of the State of New York, where she served as public relations chairwoman. Scully is a past president of the Suffolk County Women's Bar Association.
