BACKGROUND: Kerr, 57, of Centerport, is running for the Women’s Equality Party line in the primary, and on the Democratic, Conservative, Working Families and Independence lines in the general election. She was elected as a judge serving in the First District Court of Suffolk County in 2012 and was appointed a supervising judge in that district in 2016. Kerr was an attorney in private practice in Huntington from 2006 to 2012, and served as prosecutor for the Village of Northport from 2006 to 2012. She was an associate at Carman, Callahan & Ingham in Farmingdale from 2001 to 2004. Kerr was an assistant district attorney in Nassau County from 1989 to 2001 and then again from 2004 to 2006. Kerr graduated from Touro Law School in 1989, received her B.S. degree from SUNY Oneonta in 1982, and was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1990. She is a member of the Suffolk County Bar Association, the Women’s Bar Association, and the Long Island Hispanic Bar Association. Kerr is co-chair of the Suffolk County chapter of the Women in the Courts Committee, and the co-chair of the Suffolk County Bar Association’s District Court Committee.
