BACKGROUND: Rosenthal, 61, of Hauppauge, is running on the Independence Party line in the primary and on the Democratic, Green, Working Families and Women’s Equality party lines in the general election. An assistant county attorney since May 1986 at the Suffolk County Attorney’s Office, he is in the Family Court/Social Services Bureau. His duties include prosecution of child abuse and neglect cases for Child Protective Services, termination of parental rights cases for children in extended foster care to free them for adoption, and prosecution of juvenile delinquents. In 1985-1986, Rosenthal worked for the Legal Aid Society of Suffolk County as a staff attorney in the Law Guardian Bureau. He graduated in 1979 from C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, now known as LIU Post, and received his law degree in 1983 from Memphis State University, now the University of Memphis. He was admitted to the bar in 1985. He is a member of the Suffolk County Bar Association and a mentor to law students in the summer intern program at Suffolk County Family Court. He received the Champion for Children Award from Parents For Megan’s Law in 2005, and the Child Abuse and Neglect Professional of the Year Award from the Suffolk County Advisory Committee on Child Protection in 1993.
