Recently axed Suffolk elections commissioner lands new county job
Suffolk's recently axed Republican elections commissioner Wayne Rogers is about to get another patronage spot, but at a much reduced pay level. Rogers, who makes $136,000 a year, is in line for a $68,000-a-year job as a deputy county clerk, GOP sources said. His board term is up Dec. 31.
The move is due to the fact that Rogers is about six months short of the 10 years' employment needed to qualify for lifelong county medical coverage, which will cost Suffolk $16,000 a year. John Jay LaValle, Suffolk Repubican chairman, bounced Rogers, who wanted a second four-year term. Republican County Clerk Judith Pascale declined to confirm the appointment.-- Rick Brand
