On June 12, 1996, Rep. Peter King (R-Seaford) stood on the House floor to praise a Long Beach High School senior from his district for “outstanding leadership” as a columnist for his school newspaper and strong political activism.
That student, Todd Kaminsky, is now the Democratic Long Beach assemblyman running for State Senate.
King supports Kaminsky’s GOP opponent, attorney Christopher McGrath. He laughed at the coincidence, saying, “Todd has come a long way.”
In more ways than one: The Kaminsky column cited by King and inserted into the Congressional Record effusively praised the GOP congressman and criticized his school for not having a Young Republicans Club.
