Write-in candidates are welcome in the Village of Roslyn Estates, where only one candidate is on the ballot for two positions up for grabs in the March 15 election.

Two trustee spots are open in the North Shore village of roughly 400 households. Longtime trustee Sandy Joel Siff is retiring and Dr. Brian Feingold, 52, is running for his sixth term on The Sunshine Party ticket.

A write-in candidate can win the position with a two-year term or Mayor Jeff Schwartzberg can appoint a successor.

Feingold is a physician practicing internal medicine in Manhasset. He said he would work to complete road projects and continue to find ways to reduce speeding in the village, which has seen drivers cutting through the residential community.

The open contest has generated intrigue in the usually quiet village election process. “It was surprising to me that no other candidates came forward,” Feingold said.

Siff had served as a trustee for 12 years, including a stint as deputy mayor. He said in a statement last month: “I have enjoyed being involved in the Village of Roslyn Estates government and it has been a worthwhile experience for me serving in the position of trustee and deputy mayor.” He had previously served on the village planning board.

Feingold said he would advocate “trying to keep our tax burden to the taxpayer low and trying to enhance and maintain quality of life for our residents.”

“We always like to see more residents involved in the community and volunteer their time,” Feingold said.
