Ryan Cronin, likely challenger to Sen. Kemp Hannon, has raised $100G in campaign donations

A would-be challenger to state Sen. Kemp Hannon (R-Garden City) has raised about $100,000 for a potential rematch, Democrats said Friday.
Ryan Cronin, who lost to Hannon in a close race in 2012, amassed the campaign donations over just the past six weeks, Democrats said.
“I am energized by this overwhelming support as I consider a run for the State Senate,” Cronin said in a statement released by the party.
Cronin raised about $190,000 in 2012, when he lost to Hannon, 52 percent to 48 percent. Hannon has been in office since 1989, beating back Democratic challengers every two years. Hannon had about $400,000 in his campaign account in July and had yet to post his January 2016 statement.
Though Cronin officially hasn’t declared his candidacy, it’s clear the party is readying for a rematch.
“Ryan Cronin has the energy and fresh experience the people of Nassau County desperately need representing us in the State Senate,” Nassau County Democratic chairman Jay Jacobs said.
A Republican spokesman dismissed Cronin’s chances.
“The Democrats are considering putting up a retread against Senator Hannon, who has been an outstanding senator and advocate for Nassau County families,” GOP spokesman Scott Reif said.
