Suffolk County Community College President Shaun McKay last week received a 3.5 percent bonus payment worth $8,600 based on his performance in the 2015-16 school year.

College trustees voted for the one-time payment, which does not become part of his base salary of $245,698. McKay also received a $36,204 housing allowance and a $12,180 car allowance — making his total pay package $302,682.

Drew Biondo, college spokesman, said the bonus had nothing to do with McKay’s recent candidacy to head Tennessee’s community college system. McKay, president since 2010, has a contract that runs to 2020.

The trustees vote came after an hourlong executive session last Thursday during a board meeting on the Brentwood campus.
