SCCC trustees seek to bar smoking campus-wide

Suffolk County's stringent laws already bar smoking inside and within 50 feet of county buildings. But Suffolk County Community College trustees want to go even further.
 
Following the lead of the State University trustees’ "Tobacco-Free SUNY" initiative, the Suffolk board wants to bar smoking over the entire 146-acre campus and even in vehicles owned or leased by the college.
 
So college trustees in a resolution last week asked the county legislature to adopt a measure that would permit the college to go beyond the existing county policy.
