Sen. Charles Schumer has placed his Hudson Valley regional director on leave after police arrested him Monday in Rockland County for having prescription pills and anabolic steroids, a spokesman for the New York Democrat said Wednesday.

The Stony Point Police Department said it charged Cody Peluso, 32, of Carmel, with three counts of criminal possession of controlled substances for having suboxone, used to treat addiction to opioid drugs; alprazolam, an anti-anxiety drug, and anabolic steroids.

Police said they discovered the drugs in a traffic stop.

“We are shocked and saddened by this news. Mr. Peluso will immediately be placed on leave, pending a complete investigation of this incident,” Schumer spokesman Angelo Roefaro said in a statement.

Peluso posted $100 bond and has a June 16 court date, Stony Point Police Department said in a news release. Peluso did not respond to a request for comment.
