Budget bills can start printing this weekend but an early budget may prove elusive, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver (D-Manhattan) said.

“I think we can print this weekend, most of the budget bills,” Silver said following a majority conference meeting. “Depending on what happens in the next day, most or all.”

The Assembly, Senate and Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office are meeting “hourly,” Silver said. Lawmakers have said a number of issues including member items and how to share control over economic development and transportation spending are still being negotiated.

Asked whether the budget would be passed before the April 1 start of the new fiscal year, Silver said it would.

“Yes, on-time is next Saturday,” Silver said.
