Southold Town Supervisor Scott Russell said Friday he is “leaning toward running” and expects to make a final decision “within the next week” on his re-election plans.

Political rumors have been swirling in the North Fork town in the wake of domestic issues facing the one-term supervisor. Those rumors have included the possibility of Democratic Suffolk Legis. Al Krupski or former Suffolk comptroller Joseph Sawicki running for supervisor and the potential ensuing scramble for Krupski’s seat if he were to run.

Richard Schaffer, Suffolk Democratic chairman, said he is confident Krupski will run for re-election as a county lawmaker.
