Rent control? Gun control? College aid?

Forget those. The real buzz in the Assembly in recent days has been about the so-called Dining With Dogs bill, according to a few legislators.

The bill would allow customers to bring dogs to restaurants with outside food service areas. The Assembly Health Committee plans to take up the proposal soon.

Even lawmakers who like dogs have raised concerns, but hasten to add if it ever gets to the Assembly floor for a vote, the bill will win approval.

"Two things you don't vote against," one legislator said with a laugh. "You don't vote against veterans and you don't vote against dogs."
