BACKGROUND:
- DiNapoli, 72, was appointed state comptroller to fill an unexpired term in 2007 and then won elections to four terms from 2010 to 2022.

He was born in Albertson and resides in Nassau County. He earned a history degree at Hofstra University and an advanced degree from the New School University’s Graduate School of Management and Urban Professions.
- DiNapoli worked as a manager in the telecommunications industry and served on nonprofit boards before his government career. He served on the Mineola School Board for 10 years, then for 20 years in the state Assembly representing Nassau County, focusing on environmental, education and local fiscal issues.
ISSUES:
- DiNapoli said that the hallmark of his tenure has been protecting and growing the state pension system and that an experienced hand is needed to oversee the system.
- DiNapoli said he will continue to use his office to protect the environment, in part through pension investments in green industries and investing the funds in companies that pollute less and create jobs in New York State.
- He said he is an independent watchdog on state government spending while warning of the impact federal budget cuts will have on state residents.
