BACKGROUND:
- Keiserman, 52, of Port Washington, is making her first run for public office. Keiserman is a former president of the Port Washington Democratic Club. She serves as co-president of the Baxter's Pond Foundation, which helps to beautify and improve the pond and nearby park and preserve. Keiserman is a board member of the North Hempstead Housing Authority.
- Keiserman holds a Bachelor of Arts in government and a Master of Arts in education for secondary social studies, both from the College of William & Mary.
- Keiserman started her career as a high school history and government teacher and then became an educational consultant.
ISSUES:
- Keiserman said if elected she would advocate to make sure Long Island schools “get our fair share” of state funding. She said she wants to push to retain a “hold harmless” provision for school districts to get at least the same amount in state Foundation Aid each year as in the previous year.
- Keiserman said she will “be a fighter for reproductive rights, not only ensuring access to abortion” but also to “high-quality health care, including prenatal and postnatal care.”
- Keiserman said she would work to make sure Long Island can withstand the effects of climate change. She said she supports ending subsidies and tax breaks for the oil and gas industries and construction of infrastructure that is resilient to climate change.
