STEVEN ENGLEBRIGHT
DEMOCRAT
BACKGROUND:
- Englebright, 76, of Setauket, is seeking his 16th two-year term in the Assembly. He also is running on the Working Families Party line.
- He is a former Suffolk County legislator and teaches science courses at Stony Brook University.
- He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and earned a master's in paleontology and sedimentology from Stony Brook University.
ISSUES:
- Englebright said he would work for an extension of the gas tax holiday past Dec. 31 to fight inflation if the economy hasn't turned around.
- As chairman of the Assembly's Environmental Conservation Committee, he has worked hard to get the $4.2 billion "Clean Air, Clean Water, and Green Jobs Bond Act" on the ballot, the first since 1996. It's an opportunity to invest in the future and to protect the sustainability of New York, he said.
- He will continue to work to secure funding for school districts to help hold down property taxes, and for projects such as paving the Long Island Expressway.
