Ex-Nassau Dem counsel Steven Schlesinger reappointed to character-fitness panel

Attorney Steven Schlesinger, who resigned as Nassau Democrats' legal counsel in January after a Newsday series questioned his handling of lucrative court appointments, was reappointed last month by the state Appellate Division Second Department to its Committee on Character and Fitness, which vets lawyers joining the state bar.
“Your efforts continue to benefit all of the citizens of your community by assisting the Bar in maintaining its high standards,” Presiding Justice Randall. T. Eng wrote to Schlesinger on Feb. 11, congratulating him on his new four-year term.
Newsday reported the state court system’s Office of Managing Inspector General opened an investigation after Newsday’s stories.
“I am not aware of any investigation,” said April Agostino, chief clerk for the Second Department Appellate Court, which disciplines and disbars lawyers for misconduct.
