Robin Long has resigned her unpaid post as chairman of Suffolk ethics board to become campaign manager for long time friend Bridget Fleming, a Southampton Town board member who is running for a seat in the county legislature.

Long, a Southampton real estate attorney, served as the first head of the reconstituted ethics board after the county legislature overhauled its operations nearly three years ago. She stepped down more than a month ago to clear the way to re-enter politics because ethics board members are precluded from any political activity.

"Keeping the sanctity of the board was very important to us," she said.

Long, a Hampton Bays resident and a one time New York City mayoral aide, ran both of Fleming's town campaigns, most recently the 2011 race in which Fleming pulled the highest number of votes among four candidates. "I'm delighted she made the sacrifice to step way from the ethics committee and help my campaign. She is an invaluable asset," Fleming said.
