Suffolk: Laube departing as legislative clerk
Tim Laube is leaving as the $126,000-a-year clerk of the Suffolk County Legislature to become school business official of the Shelter Island School District next month.
Laube, 47, appointed by the school board Tuesday night, will make $120,000 a year in the new post, which does not require annual legislative vote for reappointment as does the job of legislative clerk. He begins Sept. 8.
Laube, who has been legislative clerk for nine years, said, "I love the legislature. The county has been good to me and I leave with a heavy heart."
But he added, "I'm very excited about going to Shelter Island; officials have been very warm and inviting."
Laube's top deputy, Jason Richberg, is the leading contender to succeed him, according to legislative sources.
