Suffolk PBA president says accused ex-chief supported cops
Despite pending federal criminal charges against former Suffolk Police Chief James Burke, county police union president Noel DiGerolamo still sang his praises last week.
“I still give him tremendous credit for what he did. He took us from dark times during the previous administration,” DiGeralamo said while attending County Executive Steve Bellone’s inaugural ceremony on Wednesday.
DiGerolamo’s Police Benevolent Assocation clashed with former County Executive Steve Levy and former Police Commissioner Robert Dormer.
DiGerolamo called Burke “an incredible supporter of rank-and-file police” who improved morale and offered opportunities for advancement based on merit.
