Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, once known for his meetings at Panera restaurants, said running helped him shed 69 pounds, from a high of 244 pounds.
Bellone, 44, made the disclosure in the current issue of Runner's World magazine. Bellone, who is also running for re-election this year, did the interview to help promote the upcoming first Suffolk Marathon, scheduled for Sept. 13. He ran his first New York City Marathon last year in 4:47.
His Achilles' heel, Bellone admits, is peanut butter: "I told my wife she cannot bring peanut butter into the house. Once I start eating it, I just can't stop."
