Suffolk Legislature Minority Leader Dan Losquadro (R-Shoreham) has interviewed with the Brookhaven Republican commitee to run against Democratic Assemb. Marc Alessi (D-Wading River).

The Shoreham Republican said his appearance before the screening committee April 26 does not mean he’s ready to announce his candidacy, but is “seriously considering” a bid.

He said he’s reviewing some “technical issues” including the state law that witholds state lawmakers’ pay after April 1 if a budget is not adopted. He said he expects to work full-time as a legislator and, as a member of the minority, he’d have no control over the timing of a budget settlement.

John Jay LaValle, Suffolk GOP leader, said Losquadro would make a formidable candidate to recoup what once was a safe GOP seat.

Ray Negron of Mt. Sinai, assistant town attorney in Brookhaven, also has expressed interest in the GOP nomination.
