BACKGROUND:

  • Berland, 61, of Dix Hills, is also running on the Working Families line.
  • She was a member of the Huntington Town Board for 16 years (2001-2017), and served two terms in the Suffolk County Legislature, from 2018-2021, where she was elected majority leader in 2020.
  • Berland graduated from the State University of New York at Albany, and earned her law degree at Hofstra University School of Law, where she is an adjunct professor. She worked as an assistant attorney general, an assistant town attorney for the Town of Huntington and had a private practice.

ISSUES:

  • Berland said she is pro-choice and will work to protect reproductive freedoms.
  • Berland said she supports prosecuting parole violators, is pro-police and supports sensible legislation to "keep guns out of the hands of people who shouldn't have them."
  • Berland said she would work to get tax relief for small businesses and the middle class. "I have a reputation of working across the aisle to get the job done. I think I can make a difference," she said.
