TAYLOR R. DARLING

DEMOCRAT

BACKGROUND:

  • Darling, 38, of Hempstead Village, is seeking her third Assembly term, backed by the Working Families Party.
  • She calls herself the “pothole princess” after fighting for pothole repairs statewide, including $157 million to fix 480 miles of Long Island lanes.
  • She worked as an executive assistant and business manager for private clients and also as a human resources manager for Target.
  • Her bachelor’s degree in psychology is from Spelman College and her master’s in industrial organizational psychology is from Hofstra University.

ISSUES:

  • Getting more buses for Hempstead schools would be a crucial follow-up to the $1 million obtained this year for two electric-powered buses, charging stations and vans.
  • She wants to see what is needed to save the financially-besieged Nassau University Medical Center.
  • As a founder of the Assembly’s new People with Disabilities Committee, she would address transportation problems faced by home care aides.
  • She would fight for reparations for descendants of enslaved people and indigenous people.
