A local DA meets a would-be local DA in the halls of justice
Long shot Nassau County district attorney candidate Michael Scotto crossed paths with longtime Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota in a Central Islip courtroom Thursday.
Spota was there for the sentencing of a man who ran over and nearly killed a Suffolk police officer last year, while Scotto was representing a client on an unrelated case. Scotto recognized Spota and introduced himself. Spota initially seemed caught off guard but listened politely as Scotto talked about his chances in the Nassau race.
Eventually Spota excused himself to talk to Suffolk police officials about details of the sentencing.
Scotto is a Democrat seeking to run a primary against acting Nassau District Attorney Madeline Singas. The GOP candidate is Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray.
Spota is a Democrat who has also run on the Republican line.
