Suffolk Police Commissioner Timothy Sini has picked up the backing of the Independence Party, giving him a third minor party line in his bid for county district attorney this fall.

Sini will need at least valid 2,000 signatures to qualify for the Independence line. He also has the Conservative and Working Families Party lines, although state Conservative Chairman Michael Long has criticized Suffolk Conservatives for backing Sini, given that he has the endorsement of the Working Families.

David Kelley, Sini’s campaign chairman, said, “We welcome anyone who wants to come on board. It’s not so much partisan as it is people looking for good professional government.”

Ray Perini, the GOP designated candidate who four years ago unsuccessfully ran a primary to break up a major-minor party cross endorsement, said the, “political machines are trying to deny people a vote, but they will have a choice on the Republican line.”
