Todd Kaminsky airs first TV ad in special Senate race

Assemb. Todd Kaminsky, the Democrat running to replace former State Senator Dean Skelos, begins airing his first TV ad Monday, a biographical piece highlighting his career as a federal prosecutor and touting his accomplishments in the Assembly.
The 30-second ad, titled “Core Beliefs,” utilizes images of Albany lawmakers prosecuted by Kaminsky and of Skelos, who was convicted last year on federal corruption charges.
“It seems almost quaint these days, Todd’s core belief that when you are elected to serve the people that you don’t serve yourself,” the ad begins.
The April 19 special election for Skelos’ seat pits Kaminsky against Republican Christopher McGrath, a personal injury attorney. A McGrath spokesman declined to say when he would air his first TV ad.
The ad claims Kaminsky helped get “tax breaks for Sandy victims as an assemblyman and increased aid to Long Island schools. If we are going to clean up government, let’s start with someone who has already done it.”
Kaminsky’s campaign describes the spot as a “significant” ad buy that will play on cable stations throughout the district.
