The Republican-run Town of Hempstead is giving some free publicity to Republican State Sen. Kemp Hannon, who faces a challenge this year from Democrat David Mejias, a former Nassau County legislator.

Hannon is featured in a recent town mailer to residents and a video on its Web site with Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilman Gary Hudes talking about civic improvement on Division Avenue and Gardiners Avenue in Levittown, where Murray lives.

“We’re very grateful to Sen. Hannon,” Murray says on the video, citing a $225,000 state grant “he gave us.”
