Races for the Suffolk legislature are more than a year away, but the name of Babylon Town board member Tom Donnelly has surfaced as a potential Democratic candidate for term-limited Legis. Louis D’Amaro’s 17th District seat.
“Tom and I have talked,” said Richard Schaffer, Suffolk Democratic Party chairman and Babylon Town supervisor. “And he says he will make a final decision after Election Day.”
A New York City fire lieutenant, Donnelly, a Deer Park resident, is a 30-year member of the Deer Park Fire Department and served 10 years as a district fire commissioner.
A former town planning board member, Donnelly was first elected as a town board member in 2011 and was re-elected to a new four-year term last year.
So far no Republican contenders have surfaced in the district, in which registered Democrats outnumber Republicans by 4,400 voters.
